Budapest. Budapest makes for a great final stop, especially if you find yourself running out of money. It is one of Europe’s more affordable cities, far more inexpensive than both Prague and Vienna. Budapest is a city of inventors, hot springs, culinary delights, and a wealth of history.
Both London and Prague have a number of activities to choose from. In our opinion, London has more to see and do, so we recommend that you spend more time in London than Prague. In general, 3-7 days is a good amount of time for London, and 2-7 days is enough time in Prague. Families should spend more time in London than Prague. Because of the Prague is bigger than Zagreb, and it also has more attractions and activities for travelers. Prague is better known for its museums, nightlife, music, historical sights, big city activities, and impressive beauty, while Zagreb is more popular for its food. This is a lot less expensive and provides more time to get to know the (fewer) locations better: Day one; Depart the US. Day two Arrive Prague. Day three In Prague.
DH and I have been to Budapest 3 times - and would love to go back. We were in Munich this past fall for the 1st time. It was nice - but we prefer Budapest. If you are looking for a day or two in a hotel to acclimate, then I would think Budapest might be a slightly better bet. There are lots of hotels close to the river - easy to walk to. "That is all part of the fun, after all, but Prague-Istanbul by train only involves changes in Budapest and Belgrade, neither of which are totally god-forsaken :)" Again not true. Many itineraries include late night arrival to places like Giurgiu, Romania or Dimitrovgrad, Bulgaria both provincial towns within the 40-60,000 range so they fit the 9ROMK1.
